I read all kinds of book that I come upon. The book
l have recently read is My Children My Africa it is the most famous book of
Athol Fargard. The book is divided into six parts. This book tells us about
what happened during Apartheid in South Africa. In this book we found Anela
Malatya who is a dedicated teacher and principal of Zolile high school. He is
against apartheid education system he believes in education. According to the
book Mr. Malatya was in between he was against the apartheid education on the
other hand he believes in education. He wanted his learners to be educated.
Since this entire book is about apartheid the
schools were segregated by race. This means that there were schools that were
specifically for black people and there were schools that were specifically for
white people. Mr. Malatya invited the class of white girls from Camdeboo high
school were Isabel was studying to debate with the learners from Zolile high
school in order to work racial. Mr. Malatya was basically to demonstrate to
show that black people and white people can work together effectively that’s
how Thami and Isabel had a close relationship.
Thami and Isabel build a powerful relationship from
the first day they meet although Thami was against Bantu Education. Thami
Mbikwana was Mr. Malatya favourite learner in class he even wanted to choose
for Thami what to study in the University.
Mr. Malatya come up with the idea of a school
literature quiz each month school they must have a debate with the white schoolgirls.
Mr. Malatya was the one of the best teachers in Zolile High school Thami
was Mr. Malatya” s favourite learner because Thami believes in education. Mr. Malatya
wanted what’s best for Thami he also wanted to choose for Thami I good career
but Thami didn’t agree with that because he didn’t like the way that Mr. Malatya
treats him.
My children My Africa is the the painful play about
the hope of a country and its people falling the wayside under the mad rush of
anger and rage of frustration. In all honest the play taken with a grain
of salt is moving and I felt my chest tighten and my heart race.
